Where income poses a barrier to legal services, The Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC) is a non-profit agency that provides free legal services to those in Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

Get the support you need. With ECLC you have access to information and advice on Family Law, Landlord and Tenant, Employment, Human Rights, Debt, Small Claims, Immigration, and Income Supports issues.

Help Defend Access to Justice.

The Government of Alberta is proposing to increase the Alberta Law Foundation (ALF) statutory contribution to Legal Aid Alberta from 25% to 50% of their earnings. ⁠

However, this does not mean a net increase in resources for Legal Aid, it just means we will see a decrease in government contributions and an overall reduction in resources to the justice sector. This affects legal clinics like the ECLC that provide assistance to Albertans with everyday legal issues. While Legal Aid Alberta is vital, it offers limited services; community clinics like ECLC are there to fill the gaps.

This is not just about budgets; it’s about Albertans. In 2024, ECLC received ~42,000 requests for legal help. All of those people received legal information and assistance in navigating Alberta’s justice system. ~2600 people received free legal advice. Over 15% of people who received legal advice live outside of the metro Edmonton area, throughout northern Alberta. ⁠
